ACCURO vs. Smartwatch: Unlock Better Performance

Share

What’s actually the difference?

Your watch tracks your workout. Accuro helps us coach it.

It’s one of the most common questions we hear when we introduce members to Accuro heart-rate training:

“Why do I need another heart-rate monitor? My watch already does that.”

And it’s a fair question.

Your Apple Watch, Garmin, Fitbit, WHOOP, or other wearable can be a great tool for tracking your activity. But the reason we use Accuro at ADAPT isn’t simply to give you another heart-rate number.

We use it to make your heart rate part of the workout itself.

It’s Not Just “How High Did My Heart Rate Get?”

A higher heart rate doesn’t automatically mean a better workout.

Different workouts have different intentions. Some days are designed to push intensity. Others require controlled, sustainable effort. And recovery between intervals can matter just as much as the peak.

That’s why we focus on heart-rate zones, not just chasing the biggest number on the screen.

Accuro allows members to see their heart-rate zone and performance information in real time and receive a workout summary afterward. Historical workouts can also be tracked through the Accuro Health app.

So instead of finishing class and thinking:

“That felt hard.”

You can begin asking:

“Was I working at the intensity this workout was designed for?”

That’s a much more useful question.

But My Watch Measures Heart Rate Too…

Absolutely, and we’re not telling you to stop wearing it.

The technologies can actually complement each other.

Many consumer smartwatches measure heart rate optically from the wrist. Chest-strap systems measure the heart’s electrical signal through electrodes against the chest. That distinction becomes especially relevant in the type of training we do at ADAPT.

Research has found larger differences for wrist-based heart-rate measurements during activities such as resistance training, and newer research continues to show that rapid, high-intensity full-body movements can create challenges for wrist optical sensors because of motion.

That doesn’t make your smartwatch “bad.”

It was simply built for a different purpose.

Real-Time Feedback Changes the Workout

Imagine you’re doing intervals.

Your brain is telling you:

“I’m recovered. I’m ready.”

But your heart rate hasn’t come down nearly as much as it normally does.

Or the opposite happens.

You think you’re pushing hard, but your heart-rate response suggests you may have more room to increase your effort—depending on the goal of that workout.

Now you have another piece of information to work with.

Over time, seeing that feedback can help you better understand your own effort, pacing, and recovery.

And that education is one of the biggest reasons we brought Accuro into ADAPT.

We Don’t Want You To Just Work Harder. We want you to understand how you’re training.

Your smartwatch still has a place.

Wear it. Track your steps. Close your rings. Review your workouts. Follow your trends.

But when you step into an Accuro-enabled class at ADAPT, we’re creating something different:

Your effort. Your zones. Your workout. In real time.

Because when you can see your effort, you can start learning how to better manage it.

READY TO EXPERIENCE IT FOR YOURSELF?

ACCURO isn’t an add-on to our training, it’s part of the class experience.

Join us for an Accuro-enabled class and experience what it’s like to train with your effort, heart-rate zones, and performance visible in real time.

Don’t just track your workout after it’s over. See it while it’s happening.
